Below is a review for the Fort Bellators Dobermann kennel in Serbia. It is written by a guest writer, who traveled to Serbia in spring 2017 and personally visited this kennel. I am very grateful to this dedicated person for sharing his review on my blog.
Branko Jakoviljevic and Evgenia Synkova are the owners of Fort Bellators Dobermann kennel. This is a relatively new kennel, registered in Serbia about 5 years ago. Branko and Evgenia were Dobermann enthusiasts long before they met each other at one of the dobermann events.
They live almost 2 hours drive south from Belgrade in a really beautiful countryside with rolling hills. I communicated with Evgenia by email when planning my visit to Fort Bellators. She was nice and responsive at first, but several weeks before my arrival she became less accommodating. I did not feel welcomed any more, so I almost dropped the idea to visit them. Something told me to keep pursuing the idea and after several more direct emails, a day before my arrival, she agreed to see me.
Evgenia is a very natural person and her first concern are definitely her dogs. I learned and finally understood why she wasn’t very responsive to my emails. They had a new litter of 14 puppies and they were expecting a vet to come crop the ears. Before my arrival a vet was staying at the kennel for 2 days. Branko and Evgenia are young and motivated Dobermann breeders, who like to do things the right way. It appeared to me that they always put their dogs and their kennel first.
When I arrived, both – Evgenia and Branko – were very friendly, warm and accommodating. To my surprise, I was greeted by a French bulldog at first. This is my daughter’s favorite breed! Over coffee and juice on their terrace, Branko shared a lot of useful information with me. He made suggestions about what to watch out for when purchasing a Dobermann puppy in Serbia. They offered to help me even if I decide to get a puppy elsewhere.
They have a very clean and professional looking facility for the dogs. The kennel is attached to their private residence, which is very nice. Evgenia explained that this is a great solution to have the close connection with the dogs, especially now when they have 14 puppies and their own young children to take care of. The living area has a large glass door between them and the puppy room, which is a very unique feature and says a lot about how much they care about their dogs.
Branko has a sofa in the puppy room, where he sleeps in order to provide maximum attention to the young puppies. The Fort Bellators kennel is Branko’s full time job. He dedicates all his time to it. Evgenia is doing graphic design and related jobs out of their home office. Branko trains dogs on a daily basis in his yard by the house. He is planning to build little bungalows to accommodate visitors. They have an open area between the house and the training field with amazing views over the hills, close by lake for hiking, mountain biking and other outdoor activities.
